Our Story

Our Story

When I first opened the doors to Aqua Life, we had a 60-square-metre shop, a handful of tanks and a simple idea: to build a place for people who loved aquariums as much as I did.

It was a much smaller operation back then. Most days revolved around the tanks, looking after the fish, helping customers and talking all things aquatics. I loved it, and I still do. There’s something about creating an underwater world of your own that never really loses its appeal. You can spend hours watching a tank come together, seeing fish settle in and plants grow, and there’s always something new to learn along the way.

As time went on, Aqua Life began to grow. We added more tanks, brought in more species and built up our knowledge through years of hands-on experience. Eventually, we moved into a much larger store, and our range grew beyond aquariums to include birds, reptiles, small mammals and invertebrates.

Looking back, it’s quite something to see how far we’ve come. What started as a small aquarium shop has grown into Aqua Life Pet & Aquarium, and I’m genuinely proud of what we’ve built.

But the thing I’m probably proudest of isn’t the size of the store or how much our range has grown. It’s the people who have been part of the journey.

I’ve been lucky to have some great people work alongside me over the years. Our team brings its own experience and knowledge to the business, but we share one important belief: the animals always come first.

For me, good service has never been about selling someone the most expensive product or sending them home with a basket full of things they don’t need. It’s about listening, asking the right questions and helping people make decisions that are right for their animals. Sometimes that means recommending a particular product. Other times, it means explaining why something isn’t suitable or suggesting a simpler solution.

I think that kind of honesty matters, especially when you're caring for animals that rely on you to get things right.

Over the years, we’ve had customers come through our doors who have been with us since those early days in the little shop. Some have watched the business grow alongside us, and others have introduced their families to Aqua Life along the way. Seeing familiar faces return, hearing how their pets are going and catching up about their latest aquarium setup are some of the things that make running this business so rewarding.

Of course, we've changed a lot since those early days. There are more tanks, more animals, more products and a much bigger team behind the scenes. There's also a lot more happening on any given day than there used to be!

But the reason I started Aqua Life hasn't changed.

I wanted to create a place where people could come in, ask questions without feeling silly, get advice they could trust and feel confident about caring for their animals. Whether someone is setting up their very first fish tank or has been keeping aquariums for decades, I want them to feel welcome.

We're always learning, and we know there's no shortage of things to learn when it comes to animal care. That's part of what makes this industry so interesting. There's always a new challenge, a new question or an opportunity to help someone get things right.

To everyone who has supported Aqua Life over the years, thank you. Whether you remember our original little shop, have been visiting us for years or have only recently found us, your support means a great deal to me and the team.

Aqua Life has grown well beyond what I imagined when I first opened those doors, and I'm grateful to everyone who has played a part in that journey.

If you're new to Aqua Life, come in, say hello and have a chat with us. We'd love to meet you and help you with whatever you and your animals need.

Welcome to Aqua Life Pet & Aquarium. I'm glad you're here.
