Tibetan Red Brine Shrimp Cysts (Artemia sp.)

Sourced from the pristine waters of Lake Namtso—the largest saltwater lake in Tibet—Tibetan Red brine shrimp eggs are a truly unique offering in the hobby. The defining characteristic of this strain is its remarkable size: both the cysts and the hatched nauplii are 2 to 3 times larger than standard brine shrimp strains. This makes them an absolute game-changer for aquarists, as they are large enough to trigger an enthusiastic feeding frenzy in juvenile and adult fish, while still being soft and highly digestible.

One of the greatest advantages of Tibetan Brine Shrimp is their incredible ability to achieve excellent hatch rates at lower temperatures. This eliminates the need to hassle with a dedicated heater in your hatchery system year-round. Because of their larger mass, they simply require a slightly longer incubation window to fully break out of their shells.

The Benefits of Live Brine Shrimp

  • Massive Nutritional Value: With a protein content reaching up to 60% of their dry weight, these oversized brine shrimp provide an exceptionally dense, energy-rich meal that accelerates fish growth.

  • Stimulates Natural Hunting Instincts: Their energetic, erratic swimming motions instantly trigger the predatory drive of your fish, offering excellent physical activity and mental enrichment.

  • Highly Digestible: Despite their larger size, they remain gentle on the delicate digestive tracts of your fish.

  • Biosecure Live Food: Cultured brine shrimp are incredibly clean and rarely carry the harmful pathogens or diseases often associated with other live foods found in local fish stores.

  • Versatile Use: Thanks to their high salinity tolerance, they can be utilized as a highly enticing live food source in both freshwater and marine aquariums.

Hatching Guidelines

While the fundamental mechanics of hatching Tibetan Red eggs are identical to standard brine shrimp, their temperature and salinity preferences differ slightly. Note: Do not use a heater for this strain.

  • Salinity: 20 grams of non-iodized sea salt per liter of water.

  • Temperature: Ideal room temperature hatching between 21°C and 25°C (70°F–77°F).

  • Hatching Time: 28 to 36 hours.

Storage Instructions

To maintain maximum hatch rates, brine shrimp cysts must be kept completely free of moisture in a tightly sealed container.

  • Short-Term Storage (3–4 weeks): Refrigerate below 10°C.

  • Long-Term Storage: Freezing is highly recommended to preserve egg viability over extended periods.
