Australia’s largest millipede species, reaching 150-200mm in length from northern Queensland. In the wild they are found in burrows in the day and emerge at night to feed on decomposing leaves, vegetation and wood. They are black in colour but with a subtle matte grey-blue sheen over them.

Care must be taken with these millipedes, due to their enormous size they are not only very heavy but also can produce a fair amount of smelly, orange liquid when disturbed which can stain skin, clothes and other surfaces. If they must be handled, gently pick them up by the body and place on your hand, all those little legs feel very strange when walking over your hand.
